From 17 to 20 December, JMOD/JSDF provided advice to Lao People’s Army on its HA/DR training simulating response to flooding. This was the culmination of the Japan-Lao PDR HA/DR capacity building project which started in 2016.The Lao People’s Army participants applied what they had learned in previous years activities to the simulating response.

As a part of the project, JMOD held a WPS (Women, Peace and Security) seminar to increase awareness on the importance of women’s participation and gender perspectives in HA/DR. In the seminar, a female JSDF personnel shared their insight and experience in HA/DR relief efforts in Japan.

JMOD/JSDF will continue strengthening the bilateral defense relationship between Japan and Lao PDR, and contribute to regional peace and stability through this project.
