  1. On 19-20 November, in waters and over airspace around Japan, the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force P-1 conducted joint Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) with the United States Navy P-8A and the Royal Australian Air Force P-8A.
  2. Given the rapidly changing security environment surrounding Japan, it is essential to conduct seamless ISR while securing a constant and continuous monitoring posture. In this regard, the expansion of joint ISR in collaboration with allies and like-minded countries is crucially important in terms of enhancing deterrence.
  3. This joint ISR, which was conducted in accordance with the Joint Vision Statement from Trilateral Defense Ministers’ Meeting (June 3rd, 2023), is of great significance as it demonstrates increased interoperability of the three countries and their ability to work even more closely together.
  4. The Ministry of Defense/Japan Self Defense Forces will continue to further enhance critical capabilities for the defense of Japan, and to deepen trilateral security and defense cooperation through initiatives such as this.
