On September 4, Defense Minister Hamada received a courtesy call from General Anthony J. Cotton, Commander of the U.S. Strategic Command. The USSTRATCOM is one of the unified combatant commands and is responsible for operation of strategic nulcear forces as well as missile defense. By providing strategic deterrence, the USSTRATCOM contributes to the security of allies and partners including Japan.
In today’s courtesy call, Defense Minister Hamada and General Cotton confirmed to further deepen discussion on extended deterrence at various levels including Extended Deterrence Dialogue, based on the increasingly severe and complex regional security environment.
