On June 2nd, 2023, Vice Minister of Defense for International Affairs Oka, visiting Singapore to attend the 20th IISS Asia Pacific Security Conference (Shangri-La Dialogue), held a meeting with Vice Minister of National Defence of Lithuania, Žilvinas Tomkus. The summary of the meeting is as follows.
1 Vice Minister Oka and Vice Minister Tomkus exchanged views on the regional affairs including Russian invasion to Ukraine. They concurred to strengthen bilateral defense cooperation and exchanges.
2 They also welcomed the accreditation of the first Japanese Defense Attache to Lithuania and the newly establishment of Defense Adviser to Japan, which would contribute to strengthening of the bilateral defense cooperation.
3 They confirmed to work together towards enhancing the relationship between Japan and Lithuania and through NATO and EU in order to uphold and reinforce the free an open international order based on the rule of law, and realizing a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific.”.
