Agenda:Evaluation for effective UN PKO activities*

  • A representative from the UN Headquarters and a former Force Commander of an UN PKO mission gave plenary speeches regarding the significance and importance of evaluation for effective UN PKO. The presentation deepened each country's understanding of the UN's evaluation efforts and the importance of evaluation for the effective implementation of the mandate given by UNSC resolutions.
  • Subsequently, presentations were delivered by participating member states sharing their respective experience in their evaluations.
  • Japanese side delivered a presentation on the evaluation throughout the cycle of UN PKO from pre-deployment education training to deployment.

* Evaluation of UN PKO activities of each phase, from pre-deployment training and preparation to field missions during deployment. It is utilized to improve each activity towards effective implementation of UN PKO.

3rd WPS Seminar

Agenda: Response to Conflict Related Sexual Violence (CRSV) in UN PKO

  • Mr. Augustin Mirimo, from DR Congo, a Women Protection Advisor deployed to the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) delivered a keynote speech. It was the first time for the WPS platform to invite an expert currently engaged in CRSV in PKO mission. He shared his firsthand experience from the field mainly on protection of women, and further enhanced member states’ understanding about WPS.

WPS(Women, Peace and Security):

In 2000, a landmark UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on WPS (Women, Peace and Security) which indicates that women’s equal participation, protection from sexual violence during the conflicts, and gender equality are necessary for international peace, conflict prevention, and conflict resolution was adopted
