The only organization protecting Japan's airspace

In Japan, there is no "air police force" corresponding to the police on land and the Japan Coast Guard at sea. Therefore, the JASDF is the only organization with responsibility for the peace and security of Japan's airspace, both in terms of peacetime and in contingencies.

Units That Make Up Japan's Air Defense Force

The JASDF units is comprised of fighter aircraft units, air warning and control units, surface-to-air guided missile units, aerial refueling and transport units, air transport units, and air rescue units.

Overview of Koku-Jieitai FY2024

Koku-Jieitai marks its 70th anniversary this year.Let me introduce the foot-steps we had taken up to date.On July 1, 1954, the Defense Agency and the Self-Defense Forces (GSDF, MSDF, and ASDF) were established. Koku-Jieitai was launched with a capacity of 6738 personnel and 148 training aircraft, and four years later, the began taking measures against intrusion of territorial airspace.After the return of Okinawa to Japan in 1972, Koku-Jieitai established four defense forces posture and 20years after from the establishment of JASDF, female personnel were commissioned.The first Japan-U. S. bilateral training was conducted in Misawa in 1978, and we began our first overseas training in 1988.
