Rear Admiral IKEUCHI Izuru, Commander of Escort Flotilla 3rd, who served as the Japanese surface ship commander for this exercise, said, “Through this high-end warfare exercise, we were able to improve our tactical capabilities and strengthen cooperation with the U.S., India, and Australia naval and air forces, thereby contributing to creating a favorable security environment for our country. The exercise also contributed to the creation of a more secure environment for our country. I also believe that this exercise demonstrates the cooperation and unity of Japan, the U.S., India, and Australia, which share fundamental values such as democracy and the rule of law, and embodies the united will of the four countries toward the realization of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific.””
The international order, including a “free and open ocean,” is universal and key to peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region. On the other hand, “attempts to change the status quo by force” in the region are a serious maritime security concern, and are not recognized by the international community.
The Self-Defense Fleet maintains responsiveness, safeguards the peace and defense of Japan, continues to integrate with allied and comrade navies, defends maritime order based on the rule of law, and contributes to the stability in the Indo-Pacific region in order to realize a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific.”
