2nd Surface unit of the Indo-Pacific Deployment Force completed its mission and returned to Yokosuka base

On 28 October, JS KIRISAME, which served as the 2nd Surface unit of the Indo-Pacific Deployment Force, completed its mission and returned to Sasebo base.
During the approximately four-month mission period, the 2nd Surface unit of IPD22 participated in “KAKADU2022” and “Exercise SAMASAMA/LUMBAS 2022” and conducted bilateral and goodwill exercises with the navies of 19 countries in the Indo-Pacific region in order to strengthen cooperation, deepen trust, and foster friendship and goodwill.
Upon the return of the 2nd Surface unit to Japan, The Commander Escort Flotilla 4, RADM HIRATA Toshiyuki said, "Through the activities of our forces, Japan demonstrated that it will not tolerate attempts to change the status quo by force. Additionally, our activities reinforce our strong ties with like-minded countries, our contributions to the realization of a "Free and Open Indo-Pacific," and the creation of a desirable security environment for Japan. This is the result of each member of the 2nd Surface Group of IPD22 doing his or her best to fulfill the responsibilities assigned to them at their respective positions with a high sense of duty, and we honor the dedication of the members who have completed their duties. I would like to express my sincerest gratitude for the deep understanding and warm support of their families and friends." The Commander Escort Flotilla 4 read the message from the Commander in chief, the Self-Defense Fleet on his behalf.
The Self-Defense Fleet maintains readiness and contributes to the defense of Japan, the peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region as well as the realization of a "Free and Open Indo-Pacific" in cooperation with allied and friendly navies.
