JS KIRISAME conducted a good will exercise with the Kingdom of Tonga Navy VOEA NGAHAU SILIVA

On August 20 and 22, the Indo-Pacific Deployment 2022 (IPD22) unit, JS KIRISAME conducted a good will exercise with the Kingdom of Tonga Navy VOEA NGAHAU SILIVA in vicinity of Nuku’alofa to improve its tactical capabilities and promote mutual understanding with the Republic of Tonga Navy.
JS KIRISAME called at the port of Nuku’alofa, Kingdom of Tonga, from August 20 to 22, and conducted various goodwill exchange events, including a visit by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Tupouto'a Ulukalala, the Kingdom of Tonga and the Prime Minister Hon Hu’akavameiliku to deepen friendly relations between Japan and the Tonga.
JMSDF vessel calling to Tonga is the latest since the JS OHSUMI carried relief supplies in January of this year in response to the damage caused by the eruption of the volcano Hunga Tonga-Hunga Haʻapai.
Despite COVID-19, the Self-Defense Fleet is fully using its flexibility and mobility in order to realize a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific”, promotes cooperative relationship with friendly countries, and contributes to support stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
