IPD22 unit conducted a Japan-U.S. bilateral exercise with USS SAMPSON and USNS RAPPAHANNOCK

From June 17 to 19, the IPD22 unit (JS IZUMO and JS TAKANAMI) conducted a bilateral exercise which is first Japan-U.S. bilateral event in IPD22 with the USS SAMPSON and USNS RAPPAHANNOCK in the Pacific Ocean, to improve our tactical skills and interoperability with the U.S. Navy.
The JMSDF and the U.S. Navy work closely together to maintain and improve our bilateral response capabilities to various contingencies.
The Self-Defense Fleet maintains readiness, and contributes to the defense of Japan based on deterrence and the response capabilities of the strong Japan-U.S. alliance. The Self-Defense Fleet also contributes to peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region in cooperation with many nations that share our fundamental values toward the realization of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific.”
