JS OSUMI arrived at the port of Nuku'alofa on Tongatapu Island to support international disaster relief activities in the Kingdom of Tonga

On February 9, JS OSUMI of the Japan Disaster Relief Team in Tonga arrived at the port of Nuku'alofa on Tongatapu Island, Kingdom of Tonga, to begin unloading relief supplies for the disaster hit area. During working on international disaster relief activities, Supporting members wore Tyvek suits to prevent COVID-19 and taking all possible measures.
JS OSUMI will provide relief supplies to outlying remote islands in the Kingdom of Tonga that also suffered damage from the eruption.
The Self-Defense Fleet has been making efforts to deepen friendly relations and mutual understanding with the Pacific Island nations by conducting goodwill visits and routine exercises, with the aim of realizing a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific.” In this next round of activities, we will continue to do our utmost to support the reconstruction of our friend the Kingdom of Tonga, and hope for its swift recovery and sustainable development.
