JSDF completed multi-lateral training event, “ARC21” with the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Marine Corps, the Australian Navy, the French Navy, and the French Army

From May 11-17, units of the Japan Ground, Maritime, Air Self-Defense Forces conducted the multi-lateral training event, “ARC 21” in the East China Sea west of Kyushu.
In this training, we conducted high-level tactical training such as landing and anti-submarine warfare to improve interoperability between Japan, the U.S., Australia and France.
Commander of the Joint Task Force of Australia, RADM Mark Hammond, stated, ”Australia has long-standing relationships with Japan, France and the United States, and this activity reaffirms our shared commitment to a safe and stable Indo-Pacific region.“
In addition, the Commanding officer of USS New Orleans, CAPT Brian Schrum, stated, ”Each event affords us the opportunity to collaborate across staffs developing deeper personal bonds, fostering trust between all our nations and in turn growing as a cohesive Naval and Marine force.“
Despite COVID-19, the Self-Defense Fleet remains responsive and strengthens the defense cooperative relationship between Japan, the U.S., Australia and France in order to realize a Free and Open Indo-Pacific.
