Military Program
In their first year, all cadets undergo the same basic military training, which consists of lectures and field training in accordance with the purposes and functions of the Self-Defense Forces.
At the end of the first year, the cadets are assigned to the Ground Self-Defense Force, the Maritime Self-Defense Force or the Air Self-Defense Force, according to their personal preference, aptitude and physical abilities.
The cadets’ subsequent military training differs according to the service to which they have been assigned.
During the academic term, all cadets receive two hours of basic field training each week, plus a six-week intensive training course in various SDF bases each year.
All cadets are also required to take long distance swimming at the first year and skiing at the second year.
Cadets spend a total of 1,005 hours in training during their four years at the academy.
