Greetings from Commanding General

 

　April 1, 2022

　 I am HIROE Jiro, the third Commanding General of Training-Evaluation, Education, Research and Development Command (TERCOM), Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF).　TERCOM was established in March 2018 by integrating former JGSDF Staff College and former JGSDF Ground Research and Development Command to create a core organization for education, training and research and development.

　In order for the JGSDF to “protect the peace and independence of our country and maintain national security”, TERCOM develops concepts and doctrines related to Japan-U.S. bilateral and joint operations as well as ground warfighting, while keeping an eye on the long-term strategic situation and trends in science and technology. In addition, TERCOM innovates education and training, contributing to the enhancement of ground defense capabilities for the future and deterrence against surrounding threats.

　The drastically changing international situation is also creating a need for innovation of the JGSDF capabilities as the backbone of our national defense force. While this year marks the fifth year since its establishment, TERCOM is determined to contribute to the national defense build-up by going beyond the traditional framework to enhance collaboration with a wide range of industry-government-academia networks to introduce new technologies in order to further strengthen capabilities in maneuverability and fires, the command and communication network connecting space, cyber, and electromagnetic warfare.

　TERCOM will proactively engage in reforms regarding the education, training, and research and development of the JGSDF with the aim of ensuring the full defense readiness of our nation toward the future. We look forward to your further cooperation and support.
