On Monday, October 28, LTC Claude A. Lambert, G5/9 Director, from the U.S. Army Japan (USARJ) paid a courtesy visit to TERCOM , where Command Briefing was provided to promote understanding of its initiatives. This visit also served as an opportunity to strengthen future cooperation between USARJ and TERCOM, particularly in enhancing collaboration on field testing.

On October 24th, TERCOM hosted a visit from Mr. Duncan Tailby, Chief Joint Operations Science and Technology, Australia, and Dr. Martin F. Lindsey, U.S. Indo-Pacific Command Science & Technology Advisor.
With Major General ISHIHARA Yoshitaka, Director General, Research and Development Department and other personnel, they exchanged views on enhancing joint operational capabilities utilizing science and technology and interoperability through networks. -

On Friday, October 18, we invited Mr. Ito, the president of Kawasaki Motors, Ltd. To provide a lecture to CGS and TAC students. During a discussion with him, instructors and students enthusiastically listened to his story based on his experience as a corporate manager being active in the front line of the world, while asking a lot of questions and broadened their knowledge.

Colonel Nakamura, Commander of the Training-Evaluation Support Unit ( HTC ) and Colonel McLennan exchanged views and promoted mutual understanding on training evaluation, especially on exercise control during field training exercises.
TERCOM is promoting interactions with Armies from various countries. -

From September 24th to 27th, TERCOM provided instruction on Operationalart in command and staff activities for instructors from JGSDF MOS schools.
These instructors will incorporate what they learned into their education, helping to enhance the skills of JGSDF personnel. -

On Wednesday, September 4th, BG Stephen V Agtoto, Dean, Corps of Professors, the Armed Forces of the Philippines and three other members visited TERCOM .
We exchanged views primarily on matters related to human resource development, especially the instructors development.
This meeting promoted mutual understanding between Japan and the Philippines as like-minded nations. -

In August 2024, COL KAWASAKI, Commander of Military Medicine Research Unit, participated in the Military Health System Research Symposium( MHSRS ) hosted by the U.S. Department of Defense, with around 4,000 military personnel from the U.S. and other nations attending.
She presented “Modeling of the shock wave generated by a projectile impact on bulletproof vest with LISW” at a poster session.
She also exchanged ideas with many researchers to apply the insights to future operations.

On Monday, August 26th, The Joint Staff College held an entrance ceremony for the Senior Officers Course of the SDF.
The students have embarked on a year-long journey to become competent senior commanders and staff officers.
On the same day, TERCOM held a host family appointment ceremony for international students, expressing gratitude to the host families for their ongoing understanding and support, while requesting their continued assistance. -

TERCOM continuously conducts ForceExperiments to verify the suitability of new combat methods and equipment.
In this verification, we collaborated with private companies to conduct technical tests and carried out live evaluations to determine how new sensor technology and UAVs can be integrated into the unit’s operational activities. We also assessed concealment methods against reconnaissance from above, including satellites. -

On Monday, July 29, four international students of the Command and General Staff ( CGS ) Course (two from U.S., one from India and one from Singapore) completed their approximately one-year study period.
Having deepened their understanding of Japan and the JGSDF , they are expected to serve as bridges between their home countries and Japan, contributing to the peace and stability of a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
They were warmly sent off by their classmates and staff as they departed for their new assignments. -

On Friday, July 26, 17 students, including both MSDF and ASDF officers, completed the Advanced General Staff course and the Joint Advanced Course.
They have acquired the knowledge and skills necessary for senior level commanders and staff officers through one-year education.
In the scorching heat, they departed to assigned units and headquarters all over Japan, being expected to serve important roles of national defense from now on. -

In mid-July, when the loud buzzing of cicadas make you feel the arrival of summer, combat teams based on 11th Infantry Regiment (Camp Higashichitose) and 30th Infantry Regiment (Camp Shibata) conducted a Force-on-Force FTX at Hokkaido training area. HTC provided a realistic operational environment and assisted the evaluation of unit activities.

We exchanged opinions on doctrines and future warfighting between the British Army and JGSDF.

On Friday, July 12th, TERCOM held the graduation ceremony for the 15th Command Sergeant Major (CSM) Course.
The 14 personnel spent approximately three months deepening bonds with their classmates while cultivating the qualities and capabilities required for CSM.
With the importance of taking “One step at a time” in mind, they embarked on their journey from Meguro in the rainy season to various units across Japan. -

TERCOM is conducting FieldTesting to verify compatibility of new equipment and how to fight in the future.
We have tested “new logistics support procedure (maintenance, supply and medical support) in remote island areas”.
The verification included pre-positioning stocks using forklifts and other equipment, and remote medical treatment using smart glasses. -

Eurosatory is a global event for defense and security.

On Wednesday, June 12, a delegation of 123 members from the Royal Thai Army War College and other courses visited TERCOM .
They engaged in discussions with TERCOM staff and observed student education environment.
They gained an understanding of the roles and lines of effort of JGSDF and TERCOM, while promoting exchange in the field of leadership development. -

He participated as a panelist in “Perspectives on AI Safety: Collective Approaches to Security Challenge” and discussed the utilization of AI. -

TERCOM staffs and the other officers of JGSDF received a lecture from Dr. UCHIYAMA Shoichiro and Mr. ITO Takuya who are affiliated with National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience( NIED ), on the use of UAVs in disaster response and on the research and development related to UAVs.
TERCOM is advancing research on the operation of UAV in various situation. -

TERCOM staffs and the other officers of JGSDF received a lecture from Dr. HIDANI Naoaki and Mr. HIRATA Tomoyoshi from Keio University, and Mr. NAGASAWA Kenta from Takushoku University, on the use of drones in modern warfare.

Personnel from Military Medicine Research Unit presented their research findings at the 8th International Forum on Blast Injury Countermeasures held in the U.S.
This forum is an interdisciplinary public discussion on blast injuries, with participation from the U.S. military, National Defense Medical College, and so forth.
Military Medicine Research Unit collects information on the latest protective technologies and medical treatments, and reflects them on their research and day-to-day operations. -

On Wednesday April 10th, the officers of Command and General staff Course ( CGS ) attended a lecture on international affairs given by Dr. Patrick Mendis, an international political scientist who serves as a member of the National Security Education Board.
They listened attentively and gained a deeper understanding of the latest international situation, particularly in the Indo-Pacific region. -

On Wednesday, February 7th, TERCOM held the graduation ceremony for its 14 students of the 14th Command Sergeant Major (CSM) Course.
Over the course of approximately three months, these graduates deepened their bonds with their peers while learning the essential qualities, knowledge, and skills required as CSM. They have now departed from Meguro to various units of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force. -

The first commemorative event featured a visit by Chief of the German Army.
On Tuesday, July 25, Lieutenant General Alfons Mais, Chief of the German Army, visited TERCOM .
During the visit, LTG Mais also delivered a keynote speech to the staff and students of TERCOM to further promote the engagement between the land forces of Japan and Germany.
