警戒管制レーダーの移転に伴う教育支援

今般留学に参加して

　日本にとって完成装備品を海外移転する初めての事例としてフィリピン空軍が三菱電機製の警戒管制レーダーを調達することとなり、その整備に必要な知識を習得するための課程を受講する機会を与えられたことに大きな名誉と責任を感じました。レーダー整備とは、レーダーの機能を維持するために必要な一連の活動であり、その国の切れ目ない防空作戦に不可欠な要素です。
　本課程では、整備の手順だけでなく、航空自衛隊の整備体制についても学びました。日本語の講義についていくのは大変でしたが、教官の力を借りながら日本人学生と同じ課程を受講することができました。教官の方々は非常に熱心に、フィリピン空軍がより高い防空能力を構築するために必要な知識を私達に教えて下さいました。また、いくつかのレーダーサイトを訪問し、レーダーを整備する際のポイントを学ぶ機会もありました。
　この素晴らしい経験により、レーダーの整備に係る必要な知識を得ただけでなく、日本とフィリピンの関係を強化する機会を得たと思います。引き続き、日本とフィリピンの良い関係が続くことを期待しています。

　As the very first case of Japan’s overseas transfer of completed equipment, the Philippine Air Force procured the Air Surveillance Radar Systems from Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, and I felt great honor and responsibility to have been given a chance to take courses for gaining knowledge necessary in maintaining these. Radar maintenance is a series of activities necessary to maintain the function of the radar and an essential factor to have a seamless operation of the air defense of a country.
　During the course, we learned not only about the maintenance procedures, but also the maintenance system of JASDF. It was hard to cope with the lectures using Japanese language. However, we were able to manage to take the same course with Japanese personnel with the help of the instructors. They were enthusiastic on teaching us everything that can help the Philippine Air Force build higher air defense capabilities. In addition, we were also given a chance to visit some of the radar sites to experience the situation and to get some points to consider in maintaining a radar.
　With this great experience, I believe we gained not only the necessary knowledge for radar maintenance, but we also had the chance to strengthen the relationship between Japan and the Philippines. I hope that the good relationship between Japan and the Philippines will continue.
