The Eastern Army Band was officially activated in 1960. Stationed at Camp
Asaka, it provides musical support across Tokyo and ten adjacent prefectures.
With a mission to uplift morale, support ceremonial occasions, and engage
in public outreach, the Band performs at a wide range of events. Notable
appearances include national events such as the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics,
Imperial funeral and accession ceremonies, and performances in disaster-affected
areas following the 2004 Chuetsu Earthquake, the 2007 Chuetsu Offshore
Earthquake, and the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake.
With circa 100 performances annually, the Eastern Army Band plays a vital
role in strengthening the bond between the Self-Defense Forces and the
citizens of Japan.
