Manabu Imakyurei is the Commissioner of Japan's Acquisition, Technology and Logistics Agency (ATLA), a position he assumed in August 2026 following more than three decades of public service in the fields of national security, defense policy, and international affairs. Prior to his appointment, he served as President of the National Institute for Defense Studies (NIDS).

Over the course of his career in the Government of Japan, Mr. Imakyurei has held a wide range of senior leadership positions within the Ministry of Defense (MOD) as well as other ministries, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). His assignments have included Director of the MOD Reform Office, Director of the International Policy Division, and Director of the Secretarial Division. He also served as Director General of the MOD's Chugoku-Shikoku Defense Bureau, Deputy Director General of the Defense Intelligence Headquarters, and Deputy Director-General at METI.

Mr. Imakyurei began his career with the Japan Defense Agency (JDA) in 1991 after graduating from Keio University with a bachelor's degree. He later earned a master's degree in International Security and Strategy from King's College London and completed prestigious fellowships at Georgetown University and the Royal College of Defence Studies.
