On August 8, JS Oonami and a SH-60K from the JMSDF conducted a Japan-Indonesia bilateral exercise with the Indonesian Navy frigate KRI“I Gusti Ngurah Rai”in Sagami Bay.

Indonesia is a major regional power that exercises leadership in ASEAN and is a comprehensive and strategic partner that shares fundamental values with Japan in principle. Through the exercise, the JMSDF enhanced its tactical capabilities and strengthened cooperation with the Indonesian Navy.

The Self Defense Fleet maintains readiness and contributes to the peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region, not only for the defense of Japan but also for the realization of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” in cooperation with allied and like-minded navies.
