JS Ise, JS Ikazuchi, JS Shimokita, and one US-2 participated in a Multilateral Exercise (BALIKATAN 26) hosted by the U.S. and the Philippines.

From April 10 to May 8, 2026, JS Ise, JS Ikazuchi, JS Shimokita, and one US-2 from Air Rescue Squadron 71 of the JMSDF participated in BALIKATAN 26, a Multilateral Exercise in waters and airspace in the vicinity of the Philippines.

Through Multinational Maritime Exercise, Amphibious Operations Exercise, and Joint Medical Operations Exercise, the ships and aircraft developed tactical proficiency as well as enhanced collaboration with allied and like-minded countries. The JMSDF, the U.S. Navy, and the Philippine Navy will continue to build stronger ties and create a desirable security environment.

The Self Defense Fleet maintains readiness and contributes to the peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region, not only for the defense of Japan but also for the realization of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” in cooperation with allied and like-minded navies.
