Commander, Self Defense Fleet presented a letter of commendation to a staff officer of the U.S. 7th Fleet.

On 10 March, VADM OMACHI Katsushi, Commander, Self Defense Fleet presented a letter of commendation to CAPT Brian Baker, U.S. 7th Fleet. Since assuming his post in June 2023, as a staff officer of the U.S. 7th Fleet, he has closely coordinated with the staff of the Self Defense Fleet, which strengthened cooperation between the JMSDF and the U.S. Navy as well as contributed greatly to the enhancement of the Japan-U.S. alliance and our bilateral interoperability. In particular, CAPT Baker shared information on the status and challenges of communications between Japan and the U.S. in a timely and appropriate manner. His efforts greatly contributed to the establishment of communications infrastructure and processes which serves both Japan and the U.S.’s effective and efficient intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance operations.

The Self Defense Fleet will continue to work closely with the U.S. Navy, from the commander to the staff and unit levels, and act together to maintain readiness and immediately respond to any contingencies, contributing to the defense of Japan and peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region.
