JS Onami cooperated in Japan Coast Guard (JCG) in Djibouti for a pirate escort exercise.

On 26 February, Deployment counter Piracy force to off Somalia and Gulf of Aden (DPSA) cooperated in a counter piracy escort exercise in port Djibouti which was conducted by the Japan Coast Guard (JCG). The exercise included participation by the Djiboutian Coast Guard (DCG), Japan Joint Staff, Japan Joint Operations Command and the Embassy of Japan in Djibouti as well.

The purpose of the exercise is to conduct a counter piracy escort from JS Onami to the base of Deployment Support Group for counter- Piracy Enforcement Force (DGPE) in Djibouti, as well as to collaborate between the JCG and the DCG exercising a technical agreement on counter piracy escort concluded between Japan and Djibouti. The exercise was observed by Lt.Col. Mohamed Adawa, Deputy Commander of the DCG aboard JS Onami.

The Self Defense Fleet maintains readiness and contributes to the peace and stability in Indo-Pacific and other regions, not only for the defense of Japan but also for the realization of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” in cooperation with allied and like-minded navies upholding the maritime order based on rules-based international orders.
