Japan-Australia-Canada -New Zealand Multilateral Exercise.

On 14 November, JS Maya and JS Hamana conducted a Japan-Australia-Canada-New Zealand multilateral exercise with Royal Australian Navy HMAS Brisbane, Royal Canadian Navy HMCS Max Bernays and Royal New Zealand Navy HMNZS Aotearoa in the East China Sea. The JMSDF enhanced its tactical capabilities and strengthened cooperation with the participating navies through the exercise.

Australia, Canada and New Zealand are our strategic partners sharing fundamental values. Toward a common goal of maintaining and strengthening the rules-based international order, Japan and these countries have collaborated through various opportunities such as surveillance operations against illegal maritime activities including illegal ship to ship transfer of goods by North Korea-related vessels. The JMSDF will further strengthen cooperation with allied and like-minded navies by promoting defense cooperation and exchanges and contribute to ensuring the peace and stability of the region.

The Self Defense Fleet maintains readiness and contributes to the peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region, not only for the defense of Japan but also for the realization of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” in cooperation with allied and like-minded navies.
