JS Akebono conducted a Japan-Malaysia bilateral exercise (MALPAN).

From 11 through 12 November, JS Akebono, being deployed as part of the Indo-Pacific Deployment 2025 (IPD25), conducted a Japan-Malaysia bilateral exercise (MALPAN) with the Royal Malaysian Navy’s patrol vessel, KD Selangor.

During her port call in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia from 9 through 12 November, JS Akebono conducted boarding inspection training and SMEE (Subject Matter Expert Exchange) regarding UAVs provided to Malaysia through the Japanese Government’s OSA (Official Security Assistance) program. The two ships practiced underway replenishment in the South China Sea on 12 November. Through the exercise, the JMSDF enhanced its tactical capabilities and strengthened cooperation with the Royal Malaysian Navy. The JMSDF will further strengthen cooperation with allied and like-minded navies by promoting defense cooperation and exchanges including multi-lateral exercises and contribute to ensuring the peace and stability of the region as well as maintaining and strengthening of the international maritime order.

The Self Defense Fleet maintains readiness and contributes to the peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region, not only for the defense of Japan but also for the realization of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” in cooperation with allied and like-minded navies.
