ANNUAL Exercise 2025.

From 20 to 31 October, the JMSDF conducted ANNUAL Exercise 2025 in the vicinity of Japan.

The ANNUAL Exercise, the JMSDF’s largest exercise, demonstrates a series of maritime operations to be carried out by Self Defense Fleet’s subordinating units in an event of contingency. Under a variety of scenarios ranging from a grey zone through an armed attack situation, the exercise demonstrated tactical awareness and fleet operations at each commander’s level as well as enhanced JMSDF’s capabilities to perform its mission. Through tactical exercises, the JMSDF also improved tactical capabilities of its units, interoperability and cooperation with participating forces from the U.S., Australia, Canada, New Zealand and France. Toward realizing a security environment that will not tolerate unilateral changes to the status quo by force, we will tirelessly strengthen our defense posture and cooperation with allied and like-minded nations sharing common values, and be proactively engaged in building multi-lateral security system.

The Self Defense Fleet maintains readiness and contributes to the peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region, not only for the defense of Japan but also for the realization of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” in cooperation with allied and like-minded navies.
