JS HYUGA and JS HAGURO participated in a Japan-U.S.-ROK trilateral exercise (Freedom Edge 25).

From 15 to 19 September, JS Hyuga and JS Haguro conducted a Japan-U.S.-ROK trilateral exercise Freedom Edge 25 in the East China Sea in cooperation with JMSDF P-1 patrol aircraft and SH-60K helicopter, marking the third iteration of the exercise which was carried out by the three nations for the first time in June last year.

As we face the severe and complex security environment, the Japan-U.S.-ROK trilateral cooperation is indispensable for ensuring peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region. Through the exercise, the participating units improved their tactical capabilities and enhanced interoperability in multiple domains among the three nations. The JMSDF will further strengthen cooperation with the U.S. and the ROK in order to secure common security and prosperity as well as maintain rules-based international order.

The Self Defense Fleet maintains readiness and contributes to the peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region, not only for the defense of Japan but also for the realization of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” in cooperation with allied and like-minded navies.
