Commander, Self Defense Fleet hosted Japan-U.S. Navy Commanders’ meeting KONDANKAI.

Vice Adm. Katsushi Omachi, Commander Self Defense Fleet, hosted Vice Adm. Fred Kacher, commander U.S. maritime commander during an annual bilateral meeting known as “KONDANKAI” at the Maritime Operation Center on Yokosuka Naval Base, Sept. 4, 2025.

KONDANKAI serves as an opportunity to align leadership of both nations to better address mutual security challenges. Participating commanders from Self Defense Fleet and U.S. Seventh Fleet delivered analyses of the operations environment to collaborate on the future direction of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force and U.S. Navy relationship.

KONDANKAI enhances interoperability between the services, building the relationships between the top maritime leaders and improves the overall capabilities when working alongside allies and partners, while maintaining regional stability in the Indo-Pacific.

The Self Defense Fleet maintains readiness and contributes to the peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region. Mutual development of the bilateral partnership not only strengthens the defense of Japan, but also realizes the shared vision of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” between partners and allies.
