USS GEORGE WASHINGTON was re-deployed to Naval Base Yokosuka, Japan.

On 22 November, USS GEORGE WASHINGTON(GWA), U.S. 7th Fleet deployed to Naval Base Yokosuka, Japan for the first time in 9 years.

VADM OMACHI Katsushi, Commander in Chief, Self Defense Fleet and CAPT ISHIDERA Takahiko, Commanding Officer of JS IZUMO as the sister ship, welcomed GWA’s arrival to Yokosuka and her re-deployment to Japan. GWA and IZUMO met again and it’s been 9 years since GWA sent a message at sea manning along the deck “Sayonara (Good-Bye)” to Japan and IZUMO, in return, saw GWA off saying “GWA, Thank you for your service.”

The Self Defense Fleet maintains readiness and contributes to the peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region, not only for the defense of Japan but also for the realization of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” in cooperation with allied and like-minded navies.
