Royal Canadian Navy is contributing to the regional peace and stability through cooperation in ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance) activities with the JMSDF in response to illicit ship-to-ship transfers of goods by North Korea-related vessels in the vicinity of Japan including the East China Sea.

In the conversation, VADM OMACHI and VADM TOPSHEE confirmed that Japan-Canada defense exchange contributes not only to the national security of Japan but also to secure the peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region as well as the international society. Also, the Commanders shared their recognitions that it is important to strengthen the further cooperation between the JMSDF and the Royal Canadian Navy in order to realize the regional peace and stability as well as to cope with any unilateral attempt to change status quo by force.

The Self Defense Fleet maintains readiness and contributes to peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region to realize a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” in cooperation with allied and like-minded navies.
