The 2nd Surface Unit of the Indo-Pacific Deployment 2024 (IPD24), JS ARIAKE, together with P-1 patrol aircraft, participated in a multinational exercise (KAKADU 2024) hosted by the Royal Australian Navy in Darwin and the surrounding maritime airspace. The exercise involved naval vessels and aircraft from more than 10 countries, including the Royal Australian Navy HMAS Warramunga, Royal Australian Air Force P-8A patrol aircraft, and the USS Dewey, as well as nearly 3,000 personnel from 30 nations.
The Commander of Escort Flotilla 3, RADM YOKOTA Kazushi, who led the Japanese unit, said, “During this exercise, we aimed to improve our tactical capabilities and strengthen cooperation with the participating navies through a wide range of training, from humanitarian assistance and disaster relief activities to high-end tactical drills such as anti-submarine warfare and anti-surface warfare. I am convinced that this exercise has strengthened the strategic solidarity among the participating countries toward the realization of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific,” and contributed to the maintenance and strengthening of peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region and international order based on the rule of law.
The Self Defense Fleet maintains readiness and contributes to the peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region, not only for the defense of Japan but also for the realization of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” in cooperation with allied and like-minded navies.
