Commander in Chief, Self Defense Fleet, VADM OMACHI Katsushi attended the opening ceremony of multilateral exercise sponsored by the Royal Australian Navy (KAKADU2024).
The Royal Australian Navy’s flagship biennial exercise is a comprehensive exercise to improve tactical capabilities. JMSDF has deployed naval vessels to the exercise since 2008, and JMSDF deployed the 2nd Surface Unit of the Indo-Pacific Deployment 2024 (IPD24), JS ARIAKE as 11th time participating.
VADM OMACHI also had a meeting with Commander, U.S. 7th Fleet, RADM Fred Kacher. The two commanders reaffirmed the lessons learned from past exercises, recognition of the increasingly severe security environment around Japan and in the Indo-Pacific region and measures for future interoperability between the Self Defense Fleet and the U.S. 7th Fleet in order to respond quickly to any situation with strongly cooperation between the two naval fleets. They agreed that multilateral exercises led by Japan, U.S. and Australia will contribute to a ‘Free and Open Indo-Pacific’ and we will continue to have such exercises.
The Self Defense Fleet maintains readiness and contributes to the peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region, not only for the defense of Japan but also for the realization of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” in cooperation with allied and like-minded navies.
