JS ARIAKE, JS TOKIWA and SS conducted a Japan-U.S.-Republic of Korea-Canada multilateral exercise (Pacific Vanguard24) with U.S. Navy, USS DEWEY, P-8A patrol aircraft, EA-18G EW aircraft, Republic of Korean Navy, ROKS YI SUN SHIN and Royal Canadian Navy RCNS VANCOUVER in waters and airspace in the vicinity of Guam to improve their tactical capabilities and strengthen cooperation with the participating navies.
The Commander of Escort Flotilla 3, RADM YOKOTA Kazushi, who led the Japanese unit, said, “Pacific Vanguard is a high-end tactical exercise for participating navies to operate together in a complex and heightened threat environment in order to maintain stable and free access to oceans and global commons. It is the 7th time that the exercise has been conducted since 2019. I am convinced that the exercise further strengthened the strong partnership among the participating countries and contributed to ensuring the peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region and maintaining and strengthening the international order based on the rule of law in order to realize a Free and Open Indo-Pacific”.
The Self Defense Fleet maintains readiness and contributes to the peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region, not only for the defense of Japan but also for the realization of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” in cooperation with allied and like-minded navies.
