Commander-in-Chief of Self Defense Fleet, received a visit from Chief of the German Navy.

Commander-in-Chief of Self Defense Fleet, VADM OMACHI Katsushi, received a visit from Chief of the German Navy, VADM Jan Christian Kaack.
During the meeting, the both admirals confirmed that the two countries have steadily built up a track record of defense cooperation and exchange through regular exercises in the Gulf of Aden, the Indian Ocean, the Western Pacific, and the waters surrounding Japan, and that the bilateral coordination posture has steadily strengthened. They also agreed to continue to conduct more tactical exercises to further strengthen cooperation. In addition, they welcomed the entry into force of the Japan-Germany Acquisition and Cross Servicing Agreement (ACSA) in July this year, and confirmed that they will cooperate in improving the efficiency of mutual force operations through offshore replenishment and other opportunities.
In accordance with the “Indo-Pacific Guidelines” formulated in September 2020, Germany is increasing its engagements in the Indo-Pacific region through regular dispatchment of its army, navy and air force.
The JMSDF and the German Navy are “reliable and inevitable partners” who share fundamental values and strategic interests under the vision of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific”. Moreover, the strengthening of the German Navy's involvement in the Indo-Pacific region contributes to peace and stability in the region and is directly linked to the maintenance of an international order based on the rule of law.
The Self Defense Fleet maintains readiness and contributes to the peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region, not only for the defense of Japan but also for the realization of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” in cooperation with allied and like-minded navies.
