JS HAMANA conducted a Japan-U.S. bilateral exercise (ILEX : Interchangeable Logistics Exercise 24-4).
JS HAMANA conducted a bilateral exercise (ILEX: Interchangeable Logistics Exercise 24-4) in Sasebo Port and in western waters of Kyusyu with USN BADLANDS TRADER.
The Commanding Officer of JS HAMANA, CDR NEMOTO Masayuki said, “We periodically conduct this type of exercise to maintain interchangeability between the JMSDF and the U.S. Navy in conducting replenishment at sea. In the exercise, a U.S. Navy oil tanker supplied fuel to our ship at sea and we were able to confirm the improved efficiency regarding the operation of JMSDF supply ships. In order to conduct replenishment at sea safely, we inspected the safety of the equipment and the procedure at the quay of Sasebo Port in advance. Under the strong, long-lasting alliance, Japanese and U.S. naval logistic forces have been operating more effectively and efficiently in support of mutual front-line units.”
The Royal Australian Navy (RAN) officer joined the exercise as an observer with the aim of enhancing cooperation in the field of logistics.
The Self Defense Fleet maintains readiness and contributes to the peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region, not only for the defense of Japan but also for the realization of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” in cooperation with allied and like-minded navies.
