JS TAKANAMI conducted a Japan-Türkiye bilateral exercise.
JS TAKANAMI conducted a Japan-Türkiye bilateral exercise in the southern waters of Kanto with TCG KINALIADA.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Türkiye, and the two countries have historically maintained a long and deep friendship through the sinking of Ertuğrul in 1890 and the Turkish rescue of Japanese nationals during the Iran-Iraq War in 1985. The two countries have conducted defense exchanges on various occasions such as cooperation in counter-piracy operations in waters off the coast of Somalia and in the Gulf of Aden, nurturing a friendship connected by the sea.
The Commanding Officer of JS TAKANAMI, Commander KUHARA Koji said, “We improved our tactical capabilities and strengthened our cooperation with the Turkish Navy. We feel proud and rewarded to be able to conduct the exercise at sea with the naval ship of Türkiye, which has a long-standing friendly relationship with Japan. We will continue to perform our duties while maintaining readiness to respond to various contingencies.”
The Self Defense Fleet maintains readiness and contributes to the peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region, not only for the defense of Japan but also for the realization of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” in cooperation with allied and like-minded navies.
