The Indo-Pacific Deployment 2024 (IPD24), 1st Surface Unit, JS KUNISAKI made a port call at Tahiti in Polynesia and participated a MARARA24.
The First Surface Unit of the Indo-Pacific Deployment 2024 (IPD24), JS KUNISAKI made a port call at Tahiti, the French Polynesia.
During the port call, the Commanding Officer of the First Surface Unit, RADM IKEUCHI Izuru paid a courtesy visit to President Moetai Brotherson, Geroges Spitz, High Commissioner, Honorary Consul of Papeete, Ms. Leiana Faugerat, and Commander, French Armed Forces in French Polynesia Commanding General, Joint Forces, Pacific, RADM Geoffroy d’ANDIGNĒ, and RADM IKEUCHI guided RADM d’ANDIGNĒ aboard JS KUNISAKI.
In addition, as JS KUNISAKI participated in the multilateral HA/DR (Humanitarian Assistance/Disaster Relief) exercise “MARARA 24” hosted by French Armed Forces in French Polynesia, RADM IKEUCHI said, "JS KNISAKI participated in this exercise as a JMSDF unit for the first time, and as the commanding officer of a maritime component force, I controlled the multinational force. We conducted HA/DR training in remote islands such as amphibious landing, rescue boat operation, and life-saving activities. Through the training, the unit improved its disaster response capability, promoted mutual understanding with participating countries, and built relationship of trust. The JMSDF will continue to prepare for international emergency relief operations and engage in missions for the realization of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific.”
The Self Defense Fleet maintains readiness and contributes to the peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region, not only for the defense of Japan but also for the realization of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” in cooperation with allied and like-minded navies.
