The 48th Deployment Surface Force for Counter Piracy Enforcement (DSPE) Unit, JS SAMIDARE departed.

On 3 June, the 48th Deployment Surface Force for Counter Piracy Enforcement (DSPE) Unit, JS SAMIDARE departed from Kure Base.
On the departure, Commander in Chief, Self Defense Fleet, Vice Admiral SAITO Akira said, "It has been 15 years since we started anti-piracy operations, and the results have been highly acclaimed both of domestically and internationally. This is due to our predecessors, who worked day and night in unison with dispatched members of the Japan Coast Guard, under severe environmental conditions, to carry out their duties with devotion and dedication. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the Self-Defense Fleet. On this occasion, we have created a logo and a catchphrase “Inheritance and Challenge.” As in the catchphrase, we will carry on the enthusiasm and passion of our predecessors for their missions, and we will do our duty with the courage to take on new challenges."
The Self Defense Fleet maintains readiness and contributes to the peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region, not only for the defense of Japan but also for the realization of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” in cooperation with allied and like-minded navies.
