The Indo-Pacific Deployment 2024 (IPD24), 1st Surface Unit, JS KUNISAKI made a port call at Majuro, the Republic of Marshall Islands and conducted a Japan-Marshall Islands goodwill exercise.

The First Surface Unit of the Indo-Pacific Deployment 2024 (IPD24), JS KUNISAKI made a port call at Majuro, the Republic of Marshall Islands (RMI).
During the port call, the Commanding Officer of the First Surface Unit, RADM IKEUCHI Izuru paid a courtesy visit to President Hilda Heine, Kalani KANEKO, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Wisely Zackhras, Minister of Justice, Immigration, and Labor, and TANAKA Kazunari, Ambassador of Japan to the RMI, and deployed members deepened friendship by conducting sports exchange program and presented to the country for hosting and presented towels for international sports championship.
After departure, JS KUNISAKI conducted a goodwill exercise with RMI Sea Patrol’s RMIS LOMOR 2, successfully completing the exchange program with the RMI.
RADM IKEUCHI said, "Connected by Pacific Ocean, Japan and the RMI are longtime friends and neighbors, sharing deep historical ties and fundamental values and principles. Through various exchange events and a goodwill exercise with the RMI during this port call, we deepened our mutual understanding and friendship. As a good partner in the region, the JMSDF will continue to support the ‘2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent’ announced by the Pacific Island countries, and will further develop our partnership through future dialogue."
The Self Defense Fleet maintains readiness and contributes to the peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region, not only for the defense of Japan but also for the realization of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” in cooperation with allied and like-minded navies.
