The Indo-Pacific Deployment 2024 (IPD24), 1st Surface Unit, JS KUNISAKI departed.

On 3 May, the 1st Surface Unit of Indo-Pacific Deployment 2024 (IPD24), JS KUNISAKI departed from Kure Base.
On the departure, Commander of the Mine Warfare Force and the 1st Surface Unit of IPD24, Rear Admiral IKEUCHI Izuru said, “I will lead the 1st Surface Unit of IPD24. The 1st Surface Unit will enhance cooperation with allied and like-minded countries by participating in Exercise MARARA24 and RIMPAC2024 and promoting peace and stability in the region, and thus contribute to realizing a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” through this four month deployment in the Western Pacific.”
The Self Defense Fleet maintains readiness and contributes to the peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region, not only for the defense of Japan but also for the realization of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” in cooperation with allied and like-minded navies.
