Commander of the Italian Fleet Air Arm visit.

Commander of the Italian Fleet Air Arm, RADM Giancarlo Ciappina visited Chief of Staff, Self-Defense Fleet, RADM KAWAMURA in the Maritime Operation Center.
Japan and Italy are further strengthening the bilateral cooperation as strategic partners in the field of security.
RADM Ciappina and RADM KAWAMURA confirmed the JMSDF and the Italian Navy are strengthening cooperation steadily by increasing opportunities for defense cooperation and exchanges through bilateral exercises on a regular basis off the coast of Somalia and in the Gulf of Aden. They also shared information on the operation of F-35B that is currently operated on board the Italian aircraft carrier “Cavour” as the JMSDF is testing F-35B operation on board its IZUMO class destroyers.
The Self Defense Fleet maintains readiness and contributes to the peace and stability of the Indo-Pacific region, not only for the defense of Japan but also for the realization of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” in cooperation with allied and like-minded navies.
