Captain Kitagawa, Director of National Security and Strategic Studies Office participated in the symposium “naval Survey & Ocean Intelligence,” which took place in London, United Kingdom between 20th to 21nd June 2018.

This conference was the third one under the title, which succeeded the “Oceanographic Survey Vessel & Ocean Intelligence“ and aim is to bridge that gap and delivers values for navies and others.

This year’s title was ”Bridging the Gap between Ocean Science and the Naval Community.” The symposium attracted 11 countries and NATO with naval officers, scientists, engineers and industries. Presentations covered wide range of Ocean science and engineering, international affairs and maritime strategies.

Captain Kitagawa presented ”Japan’s National Security Strategy in the Maritime Domain” and talked about Japan’s maritime security affairs. He was the only presenter from East Asia and welcomed by active questions and answers.

Europe and Japan are connected by ocean and share the global security interests. Through the participation, our college was able to communicate and understand the best practice of Europe at the same time.
