On Monday,13 July 2026, a delegation led by General Phan Van Giang, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence of Viet Nam, visited the Japan Joint Staff College (JJSC) in the Meguro district.
The visit took place during General Giang’s stay in Japan for the Japan-Viet Nam Defence Ministers’ Meeting. During the visit, the delegation held discussions with State Minister of Defense Miyazaki, Vice Admiral Takada, JJSC Commandant, as well as commandants of the three service educational institutions. The delegation also received a briefing from JJSC Commandant on the education and research activities of the four institutions.
The educational institutions in the Meguro district have long promoted educational exchanges with the National Defence Academy of Viet Nam and other Vietnamese defence organizations through activities such as the acceptance of international students, participation in symposia, and multilateral seminars. These efforts have contributed to enhancing mutual understanding and strengthening friendly relations. In addition, in May 2025, JJSC signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with the National Defence Academy of Viet Nam to establish a cooperative framework in areas of mutual interest.
Viet Nam is an important partner for Japan in advancing the vision of a Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP). JJSC will continue to promote educational exchanges and cooperation, thereby contributing to deeper mutual understanding and stronger relations of trust between the two countries.
