4"OQ/NOn February 17 and 18, Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Defense Miyake attended the 60th Munich Security Conference and made a courtesy calls to defense ministers of Nordic/Baltic countries and NATO Deputy Secretary General. He also attended a luncheon hosted by German Defence Minister Pistorius. PVM Miyake made a courtesy call to Defence Minister Häkkänen of Finland. He congratulated Finland’s membership to NATO and welcomed the progress of bilateral defense equipment/technology coop-eration. At a meeting with Estonian Defence Minister Pevkur, both sides welcomed the advance in cyber defense cooperation and discussed bilateral defense cooperation and exchanges including those in IT Coali-tion. PVM Miyake also made a courtesy call to Swedish Defence Minis-ter Jonson and they welcomed signing of the Defense Equipment/Tech-nology Transfer Agreement, the first for Japan and a Nordic nation, and discussed bilateral cooperation.On February 12, Admiral Sakai, Chief of Staff, JMSDF met with the senior officials of the Oman Ministry of Defence in Muscat and discussed the future cooperation. The JMSDF has called at ports in Oman, its supply base in the Middle East, and built friendly relations with the Oman Navy through conducting exercises. ADM Sakai agreed with the officials to continue deepening the bilateral relations. From February 14 to 16, ADM Sakai Visited Germany. He met with VADM Kaack, Chief of the German Navy and attended the Munich Security Conference. As Germany is one of the European countries enhancing their commitment to the Indo-Pacific, the JMSDF looks forward to further deepening relations with the German Navy.The Statement of Intent on Defense Cooperation and Exchanges was signed between State Minister of Defense Oniki and Principal Secretary Mariru, the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Kenya. The document was exchanged during the ceremony held in Tokyo on February 8.
