5www.mod.go.jp/en/jdf/Japan and Viet Nam have co-chaired the fourth cycle of ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus Experts’ Working Group on Peacekeeping Operations (PKO-EWG) and led PKO coopera-tion among ADMM-Plus member states since 2021. The final meeting under the fourth cycle was held in Tokyo on December 5, 2023, where co-chairs summarized three-year activities and completed its term by handing over to next co-chairs Brunei and China.The 4th Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Seminar under PKO-EWG was held back-to-back with the meeting, inviting conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) experts and a former Military Gender Advisor from multi-dimensional PKO missions to share insights and experience on the latest CRSV situation and desirable civil-military coordination. The WPS Seminar deepened understanding on CRSV among participants, with insightful contributions from the former Mili-From December 17 to 20, the JMOD/JSDF provided advice to Lao People’s Army on its Humanitarian Assistance/Disaster Relief (HA/DR) training simulating response to flooding. This was the culmination of the Japan-Lao PDR HA/DR capacity building project which started in 2016.The Lao People’s Army participants applied what they had learned in previous years activ-ities to the simulating response.
