They shared views on the defense cooperation and agreed on a path ahead for JMSDF and Royal Thai Navy.On February 14, State Minister of Defense Ino received a courtesy call by Admiral Cherngchai. Lieutenant General Suzuki, Vice Chief of Staff, JS, also met with him on the same day. The JMOD/JSDF will promote defense cooperation and exchanges with Thailand including thorugh the JSDF’s continued participation in the multilateral exercise Cobra Gold.On February 21, U.S. Representative Diana DeGette, head of the Congressional Study Group on Japan, the House of Representatives along with six other congress mem-bers, visited the National Defense Academy of Japan (NDA).Dr. KUBO Fumiaki, President of the NDA, received a courtesy call from the delega-tion. Dr. KUBO welcomed their visit with the NDA Guard of Honor and expressed his appreciation for their consistent support for the Japan-U.S. alliance. The delega-tion and NDA professors exchanged their views on the security environment and the geo-strategical importance of Japan and the U.S. in the Indo-Pacific region. Also, the delegation and cadets who will become future JSDF leaders, had a lively discussion on the defense cooperation between Japan and the U.S.The National Defense Academy of Japan (NDA) is a unique cross-service institution responsible for training and educating future officers of each service of JSDF prior to the Ground, Maritime and Air Officer Candidates Schools. The NDA celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2022.The NDA has expanded international exchange programs in light of the importance of develop-ing international-minded JSDF officers. For the purpose of promoting friendship and goodwill, the NDA accepts international cadets, mainly from the Indo-Pacific region, including Associa-tion of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member states, Timor-Leste and Mongolia, and sends its cadets to military academies in several countries such as the U.S. and Australia. The NDA also annually hosts the International Cadets Conference where Japanese cadets and those from various countries exchange their own views and candid opinions in English on the interna-tional affairs and security issues.
