3www.mod.go.jp/en/jdf/relationship HA/DR Capacity Building Project with ASEAN Countries HA/DR Capacity Building Project with ASEAN Countries ASEANFrom February 13 to 17, the JMOD/JSDF conducted the fifth Japan-ASEAN Invitation Program on Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HA/DR). We will contribute to strengthening the multinational coordination in the region against large-scale natural disasters.LaosFrom December 12 to 16, the JMOD/JSDF shared knowledge and experience with the Lao People’s Army (LPA) about search and rescue, and military medicine in the context of responding to flooding disasters caused by storms and typhoons. This project was conducted at the JGSDF Camp Shibata as part of a coopera-tion project in the field of HA/DR. From January 23 to February 3, the JMOD/JSDF also conducted HA/DR capacity building project with the LPA at the JGSDF Engineer School and Souma-gahara Field Training Area to share the knowledge about operat-ing heavy machinery to repair roads damaged by floods or heavy rains. Both projects contribute to further developing and strengthening defense cooperation between Japan and Laos.IndonesiaFrom December 18 to 19, Indonesian military personnel observed the disaster relief drill at the JGSDF Camp Soumagahara as part of HA/DR related project. The JMOD/JSDF is committed to further strengthening the bilater-al defense through disaster response cooperation.MalaysiaFrom November 14 to 17, the JMOD/JSDF conducted HA/DR cooperation project with Malaysia. The participants visited other ministries and municipalities that engage in disaster response as well as observed HA/DR equipment and gained insights at the JGSDF Camp Sapporo and Camp Higashichitose.
