The four ministers reaffirmed that Japan and Australia would further deepen bilateral defense cooperation in line with the new Japan-Australia Joint Declaration on Security Cooperation, issued by the two leaders in October, in order to realize a Free and Open Indo-Pacific.Japan-Australia Defence Minister’s MeetingBefore the 2+2 meeting, DM Hamada held the Defence Ministerial Meeting with the Australian Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Marles. At the outset of the meeting, DM Hamada stated that Japan and Australia would further deepen bilateral cooperation in line with the Joint Declaration on Security Cooperation issued in October this year, and expressed his determination to fundamentally reinforce Japan’s defense capabilities. The ministers reaffirmed that Japan and Australia would continue working closely with the aim of further contributing to peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.Visit to Yokota Air BaseOn December 9, State Minister of Defense Ino and the Australian Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Marles traveled to JASDF Yokota Air Base.
