7www.mod.go.jp/en/jdf/The JSDF and the U.S. Armed Forces conducted Keen Sword 23, the Japan-U.S. joint field training exercise, from November 10 to 19. Keen Sword 23 is the largest exercise of this year: approximately 26,000 personnel from the JSDF and approximately 10,000 personnel from the U.S. Armed Forces participated in it. Moreover, ships and aircraft from Australia, Canada, and UK also joined the exercise. In this time, comprehensive air and missile defense exercise, live-fire and bombing exercise, and other exercises were conducted at the sea and airspace surrounding Japan including Amami Oshima Island and Tokunoshima Island. Through the exercise, the JSDF and the U.S. Armed Forces strengthened the deterrence and response capabilities to any contingency with the firm intention that unilateral attempts to change the status quo by force was unacceptable. Japan and the U.S. continue to contribute to defending Japan and the peace and stability of the region.JGSDF conducted a field training exercise JRTC 22 with the U.S. Army at the Joint Readiness Training Center on Fort Polk. Through two weeks exercise period, both units improved variety of combat skills and interoperability under a series of scenarios.
