20BS/NFrom June 13 to October 28, JMSDF has conducted the Indo-Pacific Deploy-ment 2022 (IPD22). This deployment has objects to improve JMSDF tactical capabilities and to strengthen cooperation with partner navies in the Indo-Pacif-ic region through conducting joint exercises; to contribute to the peace and stability of the region and to enhance mutual understanding and relationship with partner countries through the deployment. +%'RIMPAC2022IPD22 unit had participated in a multilater-al exercise (RIMPAC2022) hosted by the U.S. Navy from June 29 to August 4 in and around Hawaiian Islands and Southern California. Various tactical exercise (vari-ous types of warfare exercise, missile firing exercise, etc.), HA/DR training were conducted during that period. JMSDF has participated in RIMPAC since1980 and this is the 22nd time.Japan-Tonga Defense Ministers’Video teleconferenceOn July 29, then Defense Minister Kishi held a video teleconference with Hon. Hu’akavameiliku, Prime Minister and Minister for His Majesty’s Armed Forces of the King-dom of Tonga. Then Defense Minister Kishi extended his heartfelt sympathy once again to the government and people of Tonga on damages caused by the volcanic eruption and tsunami in January 2022. The Ministers confirmed to contin-ue to further enhance bilateral defense cooperation and exchanges, and to cooperate closely.Goodwill exercise with the Pacific Island CountriesFrom July to August, JS Kirisame from IPD22 unit conducted goodwill exercises with the Federated States of Micronesia Border Control and Maritime Surveillance Operation Center, Vanuatu Police Force Maritime Wing, and the Republic of Fiji Navy respectively.
