7www.mod.go.jp/en/jdf/From July 5 to 10, JMOD/JGSDF invited five staff from the Central Military Hospital of Mongolia. They observed the JSDF Central Hospi-tal’s “Mass Casualties Response Exercise” and visited the National Defense Medical College where they exchanged insights on disaster response and medical care. 2022 marks the “50-year anniversary of Japan-Mongolia diplomatic relations” and this invitational project was one of its commemorative events. Japan and Mongolia will continue defense cooperation and exchanges by various means to further strengthen our relationship.Mongolia (Military Medicine) Papua New Guinea (Engineering)JMOD/JGSDF invited four maintenance personnel of the Engineer Battalion, Papua New Guinea Defence Force (PNGDF) to Japan and provided training on the basic maintenance of heavy machinery. The opening ceremony was held at the JGSDF Engineer School. In times of natural disasters in Papua New Guinea, the PNGDF Engineer Battalion conducts infrastructure maintenance and relief activities. This in-person training activity will further develop the unit’s HA/DR capabilities and follow an online session conducted in March 2021. Capacity Building Projects Capacity Building Projects Fiji (Military Medicine)From 24 June to 1 July, JMOD/JSDF invited Republic of Fiji Military Force medical staff to Tokyo for the capacity building project in the field of military medicine. The Fijian military medical staff in Japan have toured the JGSDF Medical Service School and Asaka Clinic and the JMSDF Yokosuka Hospital, where they discussed military medicine. As the first such project with Fiji, it will advance defense cooperation and support a newly-built medical clinic in the country and contribute to upholding and enhancing a Free and Open Indo-Pacific.
